Most legislation is formed in advance by “think tanks” funded by special interests, but nobody funds experts to think about how to reform the money system itself. Now, however, we have the Internet, where we can banter ideas about in “virtual” think tanks without funding. Getting anyone to pay attention, of course, is another matter; but before we even get to that stage, we need to agree on a plan. I’ve gotten a great deal of feedback on this subject by email, so am opening it up to blog comments. What should our money system look like and how should it work?
A few tips and suggestions:
The BB will be lightly moderated. Your suggestions are always welcome. Standard BB Code is used. Mousing over the boxes will give hints as to their functions. Most HTML code will probably not work, although this is a new system for us, and we are still in discovery mode with some aspects of the BB.
Try to use informative subject headings. Please keep posts short and to the point. A page or 1000 words is best. Longer posts tend not to be read. For lengthy material or legislative proposals, use links or URLs where possible instead of cutting and pasting the entire thing. For specific lengthy proposals or papers we will try listing them in a separate topic under the "Solutions" forum or category. Then you can post a link (URL) to it in any discussions relevant to it. There is a preview mode, so that you can see how your post will appear to others before you finally submit it. You may also edit your posts, although it is not good form to alter the meaning or intent after comments have been made.
If you simply have to post more than a page or two of discussion or debate, please include a short summary of what is included in a brief introduction, and summarize again at the end. If possible, we want to separate the discussions into three broad categories: 1) the problems; 2) the solutions; and 3) implementation.
Let us remember that this forum is about the
money reform concepts found in Ellen Brown's
Web of Debt or elsewhere. The point is open and responsible debate and discussion on the most fundamental issue in all of economics: money - what is is and what it should be in a free and democratic economy. Our goal is to try to reach a consensus for advancing our monetary and banking system from one that serves the interests of the few to one that serves the many -
a just and equitable money and banking system for all.
Thanks for your participation,
